Release Notes steadyPRINT 5.1.5

steadyPRINT Features, Additions, Modifications and Bug Fixes in Version 5.1.5

Feature Description
steadyPRINT Center: Delegated administration | role-based permission The steadyPRINT Center now provides a role-based permission system enabling you to grant permissions for settings and objects for different Active Directory Accounts in a fine-granular way.
steadyPRINT Center: Delegated administration | granting permissions Within the steadyPRINT Center, you can link freely definable roles with different objects (print server, printer and folder) and thus control the access to these objects.
steadyPRINT Center: Delegated administration | interface for steadyPRINT administrator roles The steadyPRINT Center now provides an area for the administration of steadyPRINT-owned roles and is thus able to control its access in a fine-granular way.
steadyPRINT Center: Delegated administration | user login to Center The steadyPRINT Center now provides an integrated user authentication based on the Active Directory Accounts stored in the Center roles.
steadyPRINT Agent: Passing the default printer to the terminal server session during session term The steadyPRINT Agent is now able pass the default printer modified for the session term directly from the Client- to the terminal server session. This setting is disabled by Default.
steadyPRINT Agent: QuickConnect for creating printer connections The QuickConnect function is to ensure that printer connections can be created without an additional review of plausibility, driver version etc. This function calls up the standard API function for creating a printer connection. Should a driver, e.g., not be installed on the computer, the Windows default installation routine handles the process.
Additions
CreateSteadyDB: Create a new database user during update CreateSteadyDB now provides the possibility to have a new database user automatically created for the steadyPRINT database during the update.
CreateSteadyDB: Use of Windows authentication CreateSteadyDB now provides the possibility of a Windows authentication for the creation or update of the database.
CreateSteadyDB: Tracking the permissions when running the update During an update of the steadyPRINT database, CreateSteadyDB updates all access authorizations for the stored and linked database users.
steadyPRINT Agent: Clearing the Windows registry of old entries If required, the steadyPRINT Agent can delete printer connections when being started. Independent of the use of steadyPRINT, some of the entries that are no longer referenceable remain available resulting in partly “greyed out printers” in the Windows printer folder – a general Windows problem. The deletion of such printers can only be done manually or via the Windows registry. In this context, an addition is now intended to delete the remaining Windows registry entries in order to provide the user with a clean printing environment.
steadyPRINT Center: Adjustment of the default printer via the context menu in the print view It is now possible to set a default printer via the context menu of a printer or the AD object. In doing so, the administrator does not necessarily have to change to the detailed view in order to define a printer as default.
steadyPRINT Center: Test run status for insufficient WMI permissions During the print server verification via WMI, missing access permissions have so far been displayed as a common error (red X) in the steadyPRINT HomeScreen. As this fact led to considerable irritation among some users (e.g. print server not available, print spooler crashed), a separate status for “access denied” has been introduced (blue X).
steadyPRINT Center: Consideration of tolerance values in the print server view The status display of the print servers in the print server view now also considers the configured tolerance values for the reliability function.
steadyPRINT Center: Additional column “Login Name” in print view The print view now has an additional column available for the login name.
steadyPRINT Center: Inventory – no information available If there is no data stored in the computer inventory view, a text refers to possible causes.
steadyPRINT Center: Navigation page when clicking Inventory When clicking the “Inventory” navigation page, a support page opens that briefly explains the inventory and provides important links for the configuration.
steadyPRINT Center: Output of a list indicating which drivers have to be installed on the target system In advance of a Migration, it is possible to perform an analysis revealing e.g. drivers that are still missing. This analysis can now be exported in order to pass on, e.g., a list of printer drivers that are still missing.
Modification Description
steadyPRINT Update: Complete revision of interface and installation routine The automatic update of the steadyPRINT Agent has completely been revised and is now available in a new version. For a successful installation of the updates to be distributed, at least version 5.1.5 and higher of the steadyPRINT Agent is necessary.
steadyPRINT Center: Priority list with Agent updates The steadyPRINT update now has a priority-controlled allocation of the share available enabling the administrator to control which share is given priority when loading the installation packages via the steadyPRINT Agent.
steadyPRINT Center: Revision of the interface for IP ranges The configuration interface for the administration and the selection of IP ranges has been renewed. It can now be accessed centrally via the setting of the steadyPRINT Center.
steadyPRINT Center: Adjustment of the interface behaviour for the indication of the print server alias name The settings for the display of the alias name can now also be configured at a later date.
Bug Fixes Description
steadyPRINT Agent: A click on the steadyPRINT Agent via the start menu does not open the Agent in the front although already started Although the Agent was already running, it was not displayed in the front when run via the start menu.
steadyPRINT Center: Erroneous database entries prevented the start Due to the incorrect storage of two different database values to the same field, the steadyPRINT Center could no longer be started.
steadyPRINT Center: Replication/Migation – print server domain is partly not displayed If the replication/migration was performed by a local print server, its domain was no longer displayed in the view.
CreateSteadyDB: Error message “query timeout expired” during database update When updating the database, the error message “query timeout expired” is partially displayed. This happens when the SQL Server requires more time than the 30 seconds defined by default to execute a SQL statement. The query timeout can only be configured via CreateSteadyDB.
steadyPRINT Agent: Automatic update fails due to missing permissions The automatic Agent update partially failed due to missing permissions.
steadyPRINT Agent: Offline mode | Default printer selection is displayed again The problem that the offline default printer is partially displayed again should be fixed with the current version.
steadyPRINT Dashboard: Toner cartridge with undefined fill level is not displayed A toner cartridge with undefined fill Level (SNMP values -1,-2,-3) was not displayed in the dashboard.
steadyPRINT Agent: Freely definable icons are displayed in the tree only partially, or not all Freely definable icons are now also displayed in the steadyPRINT Agent.
steadyPRINT Agent: Inventory – Printer connections including FQDN are not inventoried Scenario: As an administrator I have noted that some printers have not been taken over to the steadyPRINT database due to the integrated printer inventory of the steadyPRINT Agent. Those Printer that were connected to the FQDN have not been taken over: \\sppsmaster.dev.k-is.de\printer. This problem has been fixed with the current version.
steadyPRINT Agent: Inventory – Printer connections created via Citrix UPS are not inventoried Scenario: The inventory of printers connected via Citrix UPS is not working due to the modified UNC path: Standard: \\printserver\printer Änderung durch Citrix UPS: \\printserver:8080\printer The name change leads to a different “print server name”. This problem has been fixed with the current version.
steadyPRINT Service: Partially, the Service does not start If a network connection is still in the initialization phase, the steadyPRINT Service does not start correctly to some extent. This problem has been fixed with the current version.
steadyPRINT Center: Migration print server requires a print server license A migration print server can now be stored without an additional print server license.
steadyPRINT Agent: After deleting an IP filter, the printers are partially not visible If the administrator deleted an IP filter via the steadyPRINT Center without removing it from the respectively linked objekct before, it happened in rare cases that the printers on the Agent were no longer visible.
