Printer driver installation fails due to missing privileges

Description of the problem

Beginning with Windows Vista, the user is asked to confirm and authorize the installation of some printer drivers. The problem with this is that for a user who has no administrative rights, the installation will fail due to missing access.

Here is an example of such an error message in the event viewer steadyPRINT Agent:

“Connecting to printer sppsmasterHP LaserJet 4100 Series PCL is not possible: The printer connection to sppsmasterHP LaserJet 4100 Series PCL, connected to server FAB-VISTA, could not be made: Access denied
System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: The printer connection to sppsmasterHP LaserJet 4100 Series PCL, connected to server FAB-VISTA, could not be made: Access denied
by printerman.printerEnv.PrintServer.addPrinterConnection(Printer printer)
by SteadySuite.SteadyPrint.PMP.PrinterMap.createPrinterConnection()”

Solution

Make sure that the user has sufficient privileges or use the administrative installation for printers on workstations & terminal servers. These options can be located and activated under the settings in steadyPRINT Center. Then restart steadyPRINT Agent or manually open a new printer connection with the client.
