Release Notes steadyPRINT 8.0

steadyPRINT Features, Modifications and Bug Fixes in version 8.0

Features Description
Load Balancing The new load balancing allows the setup of a print server cluster which enables a load distribution of print jobs to several print servers. This includes an automatic reliability. If a server is not accessible within this cluster, it will no longer be addressed for printing. Only operational print servers are used. The configurable monitoring function allows to individually specify when a print server is to be considered operational.
Workflow Redesign The new version offers a new interface as well as new workflow functions.
Private Workflow So far, only the admin or the user have been able to create new workflows via the steadyPRINT Center. With version 8.0, the user can create individual workflows out of the steadyPRINT Agent that only he or she can access.
Backup Printer With version 8.0 it is possible to bind individual workflows to a printer via the steadyPRINT Center. This is directly done in the detailed view of the printer and is followed by the required definition of the backup printer in case the primary printer fails. Moreover, the workflow can also be used for other tasks. With each print job, for example, the job can be stored to a defined share or the it can additionally be sent by e-mail.
PDF merge with new and user-friendly UI (only VPD) The new interface for merging and splitting PDF documents allows a more intuitive handling. A direct preview of the individual documents and pages is displayed so that the user can see how the document will be arranged before saving it.
PDF/A (only VPD) Saving PDF documents in PDF/A file format allows a long-term storage.
Configuration and selection of media formats The new VPD driver now also enables the selection of media formats configurable via the steadyPRINT Center.
Reliability in both directions So far, the classical reliability function has been possible only in one direction. Should the master print server fail, the backup print server automatically takes over its function. In order to put the master into operation again, the admin has had to arrange its back movement via the steadyPRINT Center so far. If, as of version 8.0, the backup print server should fail, the automatic back movement to the master print server can conversely be performed. The prerequisite is of course that the master print server is fully functional.
Modifications Description
steadyPRINT Journal: Revision and changeover to new interface The journalling has been adjusted to a new and more performant interface.
Bug Fixes Description
steadyPRINT Center: Search for location and comment not possible in tree As of version 7.6 it is not possible to perform a search for location and comment by using the search field above the tree. This problem has been fixed.
steadyPRINT Monitoring: Monitoring messages are repeatedly sent In monitoring, profiles can be used to send automatic e-mail notifications to the responsible employee. We have realized, however, that several e-mails have been sent for a printer with only one cartridge being below the threshold. This problem has been fixed.
